How You Can Choose a Reputable Tree Care Service and Avoid a Scam
Unfortunately for consumers and legitimate tree service providers they are fly by night crooks and con artists ready to run a scam. In fact, according to the BBB tree service complaints are the sixth most common. So how will you ensure you are not scammed and that you find a reputable tree care service? Glad you asked!
#1. The BBB (Better Business Bureau)
Make sure that the company you choose has received BBB accreditation or the equivalent in your area. This will usually mean they are reputable.
Before hiring a tree care service requires that they provide the appropriate documentation for workers compensation insurance and liability insurance. This is important because should there be an accident or property damage if your tree care provider is not adequately injured you could be on the hook.
#3 Get at Least 3 Estimate
The best way to know if a price is too high or too low is to get at least three different estimates. This should give you an idea of what is the normal range. If you have time it doesn’t hurt to get five estimates. If the price seems to low question why it is. When the economy is tighter you can often get a good price, but if it seems way too low there is likely a reason like they are inexperienced, they do shoddy work or they are just a scam all the way around.
Take the time to do some research about the tree care company you are thinking about hiring. You might find online reviews to read. Ask the company for references. Check to see if they are a member of a reputable tree association. See if there are complaints with the BBB or posted online. The research part may not seem that important for a small job, but if you are having a big job done, it’s very important.
You should not pay for the job until it’s done and then only pay when you are satisfied with the results.
